Phimosis Treatments for Adults
If you have typed in the word phimosis treatment into a search engine like Google or Bing, you will almost certainly know that phimosis refers to the state of a foreskin that is stuck over the glans and does not retract normally.
Phimosis is reported to occur in up to 5% of intact (uncircumcised) men. The real incidence is likely under reported. We undertook a survey of random visitors to a men’s health website that resulted in 9.5% of intact men reportedly having a problem with a tight foreskin. we recognise that men with the condition are more likely to be looking for solutions, and this could increase the reported number in the sample, however, it is indicative of a significant percentage of men suffering from phimosis.
What it all means is that if you are an intact male and have a tight foreskin, you are not alone. Until rather recently phimosis treatment was usually an invasive circumcision resulting in complete amputation of the foreskin. Fortunately many Doctors found the concept of removing a tight foreskin as a standard way of treating phimosis to be abhorrent. These good Doctors started to research the history of circumcision as well as conservative treatments.
It was quickly discovered that the western practice of circumcision arose out of a Victorian era fad and not due to medical reasons per se. It was also revealed that conservative therapies like stretching the foreskin manually or with a balloon, and with a steroid cream, could give 95% of men relief from their tight foreskin / phimosis.
In the past decade scientists and doctors have worked out the best way to treat a tight foreskin and we present these findings here.
